Better bus service enroute

11/16/2015

132 Bus from Redstone to Malden to have extended hours until 11 pm
132 MBTA Bus to Stoneham
Commuters who had to rush to get the last 132 bus of the day will now be able to breathe a little easier.  Starting next March, service on the 132 bus that runs from the Redstone Shopping Center to Malden Station will have hours extended from 7 pm to 11 pm, Monday to Saturday.  (There is no service on Sundays).  This will make it possible for those working evening or later shifts to be able to use public transport.  It will also allow Stoneham Theatre and other Stoneham businesses and restaurants to draw both workers and patrons from Boston, who previously could only access Stoneham Square car after 7.

The change was announced by State Representative Michael Day, who has been working with the Stoneham Transportation Advisory Committee (STAC) on a list of transportation action items for Stoneham. The STAC is one of the outcomes of the Stoneham Square Action Plan, designed to improve Stoneham's downtown. One of the highest priorities is better service on the 132 bus.  Day put together a Transportation Forum for Stoneham in October, bringing MBTA General Manager Frank DePaola to Stoneham to hear the concerns and needs of area residents.  Other transportation wishes include a bus stop at the Stone Zoo,and service to the medical area on Montvale Avenue and/or to Elm or Franklin Streets to serve destinations such as the Stoneham Senior Center and Stoneham High School.

The Stoneham Transportation Forum hosted by Day can be viewed on-demand at StonehamTV’s website.  Those with questions about this and other service improvements are encouraged to reach out to Day at [email protected] or by phone at 617.722.2582.or to the Transportation Committee chair, Rachel Meredith Warren at [email protected].
